Three tracks coming at ya today. Summer's almost done, (jesus christmas where did it go??), so I figured I would highlight some of my fav summer anthems of 2009. Amazingly, they all have summer in the name. Damn here i go again being SO thoughtful and fancy with my post themes. Pat myself on the back.
1) The Obvious Choice
Summertime Clothes - Animal Collective (.mp3)
Such multi-layered sound. you can just lay back stare at the sun and soak up the music. First heard the song live at Bonnaroo which can't hurt either. For a free-form song, its strangely anthemic...
2) The New Obscure (and soon to be overplayed) Anthem
Deadbeat Summer - Neon Indian (.mp3)
I love this song so much its not funny. It's lazy, hot, and mildly sticky. The whimsy synths over the decidedly lo-fi singing and tamborine. These kids are better then MGMT. I feel like by 2010 everyone will have just discovered them and decided how 2009 they were.... just like MGMT.... But seriously, the album is great but i can't get a leak of the full thing, or I would have given it to you all by now. Its coming. Eventually.
3) The Gypsy-Psychedelic Summer Song for Your Shrooms Overdose
Wait for the Summer - Yeasayer (.mp3)
(Album is also great) All Hour Cymbals (.torrent)
You don't need drugs this summer, just Yeasayer. Psychedelic-rock uses just pisses me off, but this is focused and done with a level of musicianship that makes me understand why people like this genre. Grab a bongo and a bong and enjoy.
